Carpet Cushion and Installation

ABOUT CARPET CUSHION:

What Will Carpet Cushion do for you?

Carpet cushion, sometimes called padding, performs two functions: to make your carpet feel good when you walk on it, and to help your carpet maintain its original appearance over time. Carpet cushion is like the shock absorbers on your car. It's there to protect your investment by absorbing the pounding of foot traffic. To do so, carpet cushion should neither be too soft or too firm. It should have good support, but also some "springiness" to it. Within this range you can select a firmer or softer feel depending on the type of carpet you are installing and your preference to the feel underfoot.

Bonded carpet cushion is the most popular carpet cushion, used in over eighty percent (80%) of all residential installations. An excellent value, bonded provides outstanding performance and comfort. Bonded cushion is composed of new foam that has been recycled from other manufacturing operations such as furniture, bedding, and automotive, thus helping to reduce landfill waste and improve our environment.

The standard cushion we use under all normal type carpets is Carpenter's "Summit Deluxe". This is a premium cushion, 7/16" thickness and six-pound density. Under Berber carpets, we use premium cushion "Muirfield" from Scottdel, which is also, 7/16" thick but is an eight-pound density. This allows for the maximum comfort in the home environment.

ABOUT INSTALLATION:

It is important to be able to rely on your dealer's experience and judgment regarding installation. Your dealer servers an important function by matching the skills of your installer to the requirements of your job. That's why it's smart to buy your carpet and installation from the same dealer. This gives you a single responsible place to go with questions and problems.

Nine steps to assure that you are satisfied with your carpet installation.

The first four steps are steps taken at the time of your purchase and confirmed before your installation takes place. The remaining five steps pertain to on-site installation of your carpet.

Any questions or concerns should be handled with your sales person prior to the installation date being scheduled.

1.Discuss and approve the location of carpet seams.

2. Determine who will move furniture and reach an agreement on any charges for this service.

3. Decide who will remove and dispose of any existing carpet and padding, and agree on charges.

4. Understand your warranties - know what is and is not covered - and the procedure for handling a service call.

5. Vacuum old carpet prior to the arrival of the installer.

6. Inspect the completed installation with the installer.

7. Continue operating the ventilation system at normal room temperature for up to 72 hours after installation. If possible, open windows to increase the flow of fresh air.

8. Retain a scrap of the carpet approximately 1 foot square or larger to patch holes if necessary.

9. Keep indoor temperature and humidity at levels comfortable for living conditions. Temperatures below 65 degrees and above 95 degrees can cause the carpet to buckle.
