CARPET FIBER:
The main types of fibers used today are Nylon, Polyester and Olefin.
It is possible for fibers to become stronger and more resilient
when they are woven in tighter stitch rates (more stitches per
square inch) and twisted to a higher twist level. Technology has
been advancing so rapidly, that since 2004 there has been more
than a half dozen NEW versions of carpet fibers in the nylon and
polyester field your sure to find the right product for your particular
need.
NYLON is the most commonly used fiber on the
market. It's feature are long wearing, great resilience, unlimited
color choices, stain resistant when treated , has low piling and
fuzzing when extruded in a continuous filament.
POLYESTER has taken back a strong foothold in
the market. Polyester fiber dyes well, produces crisp, clean colors
and has excellent color retention. All of which help resists carpet
color fade. Polyester carpet has a nice feel (soft & bulky),
is naturally stain resistant (better than nylon), affordable and
a good value. However, new polyester carpet will shed fiber for
some time. This "shedding" is normal for this style
carpet. Polyester is now available in continuous filament, which
stops "shedding".
OLEFIN most often is used in the manufacture
of commercial carpets primarily because the fibers are colorfast
and resist stains better than other carpet fibers. These types
of carpets crossover to residential use because of the durability
and ease of maintenance, ie: basements, family rooms, children's
play areas, home office & dens.
FIBER TECHNOLOGIES: (Stain Treatments):
The major fiber producers are DuPont, Monsanto, Honeywell and
3M. Each producer has their own trademarked stain treatment, which
they use on the fiber they produce. To learn about each producers’
